Why I Love CrossFit

Why I Love CrossFit

I found CrossFit two years ago and I am so glad I did. Not only did it change my physical body in ways I had never seen before with other exercise routines, but it also gave me confidence and a sense of belonging. I walk into any CrossFit box and I feel right at home. It’s amazing. If I had to pick a favorite part, I’d have to say it’s the Olympic lifting. The challenge and the technical aspect of it really fascinate me; you can always get better at the Oly lifts!

There are many reasons I fell in love with CrossFit but I think the biggest reason was the scalability. Everyone’s on the same playing field at his or her level – the goal is to have fun becoming the best version of yourself through sound functional movements that, when done right, will keep you fit for the rest of your life. I was first drawn in by the physical changes and challenges that I experienced at CrossFit and then I really started to care about my nutrition and state of mind (because you can’t show up to “Fran” with a belly full of doughnuts!). Then there’s the CrossFit community: you will test your strengths and face your weakness alongside your peers who truly want you to succeed and will cheer you on until the very end.

The truth is, it’s everywhere now and whether you have heard positive or negative feedback about the sport I encourage you to try it out for yourself and make your own decision! The constantly varied programming that CrossFit provides will keep the sport interesting and exciting. It combines gymnastics, Olympic lifting, weight lifting, mobility, and aerobic movements all rolled into one. The functional movements we teach easily transfer over into your everyday life too. Completing a clean may not seem like something you’d do everyday, but you will need to sit down and stand up, pick up things or kids, and press things over your head on occasion to put things away!

If you’re on the fence about CrossFit I hope I’ve swayed you (just a little) to drop those self-limiting thoughts and try it out for yourself. Join in the CrossFit revolution and reap the positive effect, prepare yourself for the unknown, and the unknowable – it’s going to be a blast! See you in the Box.
