You Are What You Eat
Ayurveda is the 5,000 year old traditional medicine of India. It may sound intimidating, but at the heart of this great science is a concept we all know, “you are what you eat.” I think of it as a centuries old, common sense, nature based guide to finding balance in your life. When people talk about Ayurveda they often mention Doshas, a mix of 3 mind and body principles which create our “constitution”. Each dosha is made up of 2 of the 5 elements: space, air, fire, water, and earth. These doshas- Vata, Pitta, and Kapha are specific to the individual. What’s Your Dosha? Make It Your Own
My greatest takeaway from the Ayurveda workshop was that Ayurveda is unique and personal. You don’t have to be a perfectionist. No one is keeping score. So you’re a Pitta but you can’t live without Sriacha? Fine, put that delicious rooster sauce all over everything but make sure to balance it out.
So pick up the coconut (or olive, or sesame) oil and do whatever you want with it. Maybe oil pulling will work for you, maybe it won’t. The beauty of this practice, much like yoga, is that there are no rules. Try things on, see what works for you, and let go of what doesn’t.
