Yoga and the Human Anatomy with Amy Walter
This is an experiential course where we explore the major muscles and joints of the body and how they relate to the yoga practice. Through lecture, observation, hands-on exercises, assisting and practice of specific asanas, you will learn the location and function of the key anatomical regions of the body and understand how they relate to asana practice. This course will enable you to have a better understanding of how to practice and teach asanas safely and in a way to focus on specific muscles and muscular/joint imbalances in your and your students practices. Common stresses and injuries for each part of the body are addressed. You will learn general guidelines on how to apply asana therapeutically for specific injuries, as well as modifications to maximize the healing and strengthening that is possible from the practice of yoga. There is a practice each day of the program to bring the knowledge you gain into an experiential practice. All Levels Welcome: Although the course is designed for teachers, serious students of yoga who are not choosing to teach are also more than welcome to attend.
