General Q&A

“You offer Yoga, CrossFit, and Cycling? Which one should I try first?”

Take advantage of our Unlimited 30 Day Intro Pass and try yoga, CrossFit, and Cycle classes for an entire month for just $30. No you don’t have to be in shape, all you have to do is show up and we will take care of the rest!

“What should I expect?”

At Dancing Mind, our classes are physically challenging so be prepared to sweat and burn some calories! Also be prepared to have fun as you move. The more you come the easier it becomes!

“The parking lot is full! Where do I park?”

Plenty of parking is available adjacent to the building (do not park on marked spaces/towing is enforced), but in case all spaces are taken additional parking is available on the side streets and Dancing Mind guests may part at Einstein Bagels, just 2 building down from us on Broad Street! All parking is free.

“What should I wear?”

Wear loose, breathable, and comfortable gym or yoga clothing. We keep the studio between 90-95 degrees to support flexibility and detoxification.

“I am out of shape/afraid to look foolish!”

Isn’t that what we all fear? The truth is that we will all be too busy as we are being challenged. The most important thing is to take that first step towards getting here!

“What about hydration?”

Hydrate well BEFORE and AFTER class. We will never stop you from drinking water; however, hydrating during class will take you out of focus, and practicing/exercising with water in your stomach will cause you to feel nausea.

“What should I eat before/after practice?”

Eat a healthy meal 2-3 hours before exercising and you will be fine. Practicing/exercising with a full stomach can be an interesting experience – you can expect to experience bowel movements, inflexibility, and nausea. Now you know the issues, and knowing your own metabolism and digestive system, you can make the best decision for yourself.

“How often should I come?”

Practice 3 times per week to see changes in your body. Practice 5 times a week and watch your life transform!

“Can I practice/exercise if I’m pregnant?”

Considering that you are in good health, exercising/yoga is perfectly safe. Many of our teachers/coaches are moms and exercised/practiced throughout their pregnancy. As always consult your doctor first.

“Do you have showers or changing facilities?”

Yes! In fact, we have both! Our studio space features men and women’s locker rooms that have changing rooms and showers. Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are not provided. Towels can be rented for $2.

“Where do I begin?”

To begin, you need to reserve your class spot and show up, that is all. You can call or email if you have any questions. Just come and be prepared to have fun, sweat, burn some calories, and meet inspiring and friendly people. For more information on classes, studio etiquette, our policies and other details, please check out our Get Started page.

“How do I sign up for classes?”

Whether you’ve visited us at the studio or are checking us out online for the very first time, our “Schedule Now” button on our website homepage gives you the ease of reserving a spot at a class time that suits your schedule at any time! All members are required to create a MindBody Online account where they can view and register for upcoming classes and workshops. While it is not necessary to sign up in advance, it is recommended for classes in our smaller studios that may reach capacity (classroom capacities can be seen online when making a reservation). Making an online reservation will hold your spot in the class for up to 10 minutes before the class begins. If you have not checked in at the front desk by 10 minutes before the start of class, your spot will be released to those on the wait-list. You can create an online account here. You can also make reservations using the Dancing Mind app available for android and apple users. App can be searched and downloaded from your app store at Dancing Mind.

Yoga Q&A

“Who can practice yoga?”

Almost everyone can practice yoga. You don’t need to have strength, flexibility, or experience. You just need to come as you are. Come and give it a chance.

“What if I’m not flexible? Can I still do yoga?”

You don’t have to be flexible to practice yoga. The postures can be modified to accommodate each and every different body type. Just show up and breathe! The teachers are available to guide you at your own pace.

“What about the tape on the floor?”

They are parking spots for your mat and help guide the flow of students in class for teachers and assistants. Please place your mat inside the marked tape and place your water, block, and strap to the left upper corner.

“What about those cool looking colorful mat towels?”

Yogitoes mat towels are an important purchase, and are worth every penny! You will stop slipping on your mat, tripping on your bunched up beach towel, avoid getting injured, and get lots more of your practice!

“What should I wear/bring?”

Bring yourself, dressed in comfortable clothing suitable for exercise. Bring a mat, a towel and some water. You might want to bring a change of clothes if you wish to change after class.

CrossFit Q&A

“What is CrossFit?”

It’s a workout methodology based on constantly varied high intensity movements that help everyday life. Why it works is because your body never adapts to any one movement thereby keeping the effect of any given day’s workout at a maximum – and you never get bored. The intensity that everyone takes part in ends up galvanizing our supportive community.

“I heard that CrossFit can hurt you, is this true?”

ANYTHING you do in life can injure you if you don’t do it correctly, or haven’t taken into consideration your level of fitness, flexibility, or health. If you’re spending too much time on the couch right now, that’s hurting you too! Runners get shin splints, tennis players get tennis elbows, strength trainers get strains, basketball players get sprained ankles, and couch potatoes get obesity, high blood pressure, and coronaries. At Dancing Mind CrossFit we will instill Technique BEFORE Intensity. We will keep you safe by having a watchful eye on you during your entire WOD. By increasing your strength and flexibility, we will actually make it harder for you to get hurt! CrossFit done properly is both safe and potent.

“What should I expect in my first CrossFit workout session?”

For starters, you can expect FUN! Learning something new for another. Teamwork. Community. CrossFit Elements Course will have you surrounded by others new to CrossFit as well. In each case, there will be a full body warm-up that we will walk you through on the WOD Board. During the Elements Course, you’ll get a little “chalk talk” first, before the warm up. Then we’ll go through the technique of the movements in preparation of the day’s work and any extra mobility work needed. And then we’ll sweat. Coaches will be on hand to ensure you are moving properly in line with the technique we just showed you so you stay SAFE. After, there’ll be mobility work to ensure you remain flexible and injury free.

“Will CrossFit be too challenging for someone like me?”

One of my favorite quotes is this: “If you think you can’t, you can’t. If you think you can, you can.” The person who told you CrossFit was too challenging for you might not be up for the challenge, but I’m guessing you’re reading this because other options have failed you in the past. One of the beauties of CrossFit is that it is infinitely scalable, which means that we can tailor any movement we ask our members to do to meet your current level of fitness. Every new member will talk to the Head Coach about your health history, current body issues, and your short and long-term goals so that he can help you reach them. Turns out that both Olympians and Grandmas can benefit from CrossFit, the only difference is the prescribed scale for the movements.

“What does W.O.D mean?”

W.O.D stands for Workout of the Day and it is the list of exercises for a given day. Since CrossFit is being constantly varied members learn to anticipate what tomorrows WOD will be.

“What does Scalable mean?”

It means scaled according to your ability! We can adapt the workout to suit your, or anyone’s, level of fitness and ability.

“Can I just sign up for any WOD class?”

Yes! At CrossFit Dancing Mind, our expert coaches can guide anyone through out Workout of the Day. If you come with a great attitude and willingness to try something new, our Coaches will make sure you have an amazing time. Our CrossFit Dancing Mind Community is like none other! We value technique, scaling and individual needs above anything else. Our box is the perfect place for any and all fitness levels. Come try a class!

“Is it true that CrossFit is only for athletes, firefighters, military and police?”

Absolutely not! Anyone can gain from the benefits of CrossFit. It is true that CrossFit was initially designed as a fitness program for firefighters, military, and police who needed to have a level of fitness to be ready for anything (what we call the unknowable and unknown). This level of fitness allows them to not only be able to save their own lives, but the lives of other as well. Everyone can benefit from being stronger, faster, and more functional.

“Do I have to train every day in CrossFit?”

No! We encourage you to train intensely but also REST often to recover from the exertions as well. It’s vital to keeping you healthy and allowing you to push yourself to new personal bests the following time. Over-training is something we discourage because it does not help you achieve your fitness or health goals and increases the risk of injury. We recommend either a 3-4 times per week. On your days off mix it up! Do some yoga, cycling and remember to always have a day of full rest!

“Is CrossFit a sport?”

Originally, it was meant to supplement various lifestyles and make you better at other activities. However, is has turned into the Sport of Fitness. CrossFit has its own CrossFit Games giving CrossFitters a fair and equal chance of making it to the elite finals. Over 70,000 athletes participated this year!

“What is the CrossFit Elements Course?”

Here at CrossFit Dancing Mind we’re committed to Technique, Performance, Fun and Community. Without proper Technique, you won’t be able to have fun when performing at a high intensity. It’s the way we keep you safe from injury. DM’s CrossFit Elements Course will not only give you a good sweat, but it will instill the proper mechanics to keep you safe and in the long run allow you to lift more efficiently and heavier as well as have some knowledge on why CrossFit is so effective and why nutrition is key to your physique and your power output.
